What is the purpose of education? Simply, education is a tool that is used to help identify a student’s talents, whether that be academic or not…. Education is not all about learning text. It is about encouragement and passing on your love of learning to students.
Why do I want to be a teacher? I have always had a love of learning and embracing new knowledge. So much so I spent 12 years in higher education specialising in business and entrepreneurship. The knowledge I have gained during these years I have always wanted to share and pass on to the new young minds in our society. That was one of the reasons I completed my PhD, to enable me to provide that knowledge. Life, however, took me in another direction, working in the research field. I spent 7 wonderful years being part of a research team in the field of health science where I was able to utilise my business skills to aid in our research. After my time at the research centre ended I found myself thinking about sharing my love of knowledge and education again.
Now I feel is the perfect time for me to start the Hibernia course in order for me to teach my love of business and all its attributes to the young enquiring minds of this generation. I have the knowledge, yes, but I also have the outside experience which I feel will add to my teaching and empower me to be the best teacher I can be.
As mentioned above I have always wanted to share my love of knowledge with others. This is something that has only gotten stronger as I have gotten older and gained more world experience. I feel teachers are key to young peoples minds and find the responsibility of that key to be a privilege and one that I take very seriously. I have also watched my sister complete the Hibernia Programme and seen her love of teaching flourish over the 2 years she spent studying and engaging young minds. I also feel Business is an underrated subject, one that is maybe overlooked by some as not interesting or exciting enough. This I feel is something that has to change and I believe my love of learning for business and entrepreneurship will aid me in passing on this love to students. My key as a teacher, I feel, is to make business interesting and it is a challenge I am excited to embrace.
What kind of teacher do I want to be?
I want to be a teacher that encourages her students to believe in themselves. Learning is more than just learning off text from a sheet or book; it is about understanding what you are learning and wanting to know more about it. I truly believe that all students have the ability to learn and achieve great things; some just have a different way of showing it and as a teacher it is my duty to discover this and help it flourish.
